Centralizing talk spaces[edit]
This page has 6,200 watchers whereas Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Current events has 38. Should that page redirect here? Or is there some other action that should be taken to better organize/centralize discussion of current events on Wikipedia (things like the invite I made above)? {{u|Sdkb}} talk 01:21, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Sdkb: I would think so to be honest. –MJL ‐Talk‐☖ 17:04, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Red links[edit]
The Kip (talk · contribs) insists (see here) that red links should not be added on the Current Events portal. Is that indeed the policy? 109.37.142.196 (talk) 22:52, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think it's a policy after having read MOS:REDLINK and WP:REDLINK; in fact I think there is reason for keeping redlinks on the portal after reading that there is research showing redlinks are a major driver of major contributions in the form of article creation. That said, I don't know everything, so maybe there's a consensus against redlinks on the portal somewhere (if there is, it should be added to the MOS or the redlink page).
- At the same time, the policies I listed also say that redlinks should not be used when the subject is not notable enough for its own page, and I don't think the subject that was redlinked in this instance passes that standard. JM (talk) 12:41, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

US Navy no longer operates F/A-18 Hornet. 103.151.172.33 (talk) 17:52, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- Firstly, this error report should be made at Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors#Errors with "In the news" to keep discussion centralized. About the issue itself, the original source of the image didn't seem to mention the model of the aircraft, nor whether it belongs to the Navy or the Marines. I think it looks more like a F/A-18E/F (the current link is to the old Hornet), but obviously I'm not a reliable source. The safest response would be to remove all mention of model and belonging, changing the caption to "US fighter jet taking off prior to the airstrikes". Liu1126 (talk) 18:47, 13 January 2024 (UTC)

Addition of February 2024 California atmospheric river to Weather Section[edit]
I believe that the article February 2024 California atmospheric river should be added to the weather section of the ongoing events box. I wanted to make a topic here to see if any one opposes this addition. Thanks! ZombiUwU (💬 ~♥~ 📝) 19:09, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
