- 3 January: Private companies were allowed to operate drug rehabilitation centres in the country.[1]
- 4 January: President Muizzu launched a multimillion-dollar project to upgrade Velana International Airport (VIA) to boost the capacity to 25 million passengers,[2] which caused seaplane terminals to be relocated to Funadhoo for the project to continue.[3] Muizzu planned the creation of an establishment with the name "Maldives International Financial Services Authority" and planned Funadhoo to be an international financial hub.[4][5]
- 7 January:
- Malé Prison evacuated and closed due to the close proximity to other schools and colleges and relocated[6]
- National Anthem started playing everyday at schools.[7]
- 8 January: 3 ministers who work in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts were suspended for insulting Indian PM Narendra Modi on X (formerly Twitter) when he posted a photo of him in Lakshadweep,The Youth Ministry officials had called Modi a "clown," a "terrorist," and a "puppet of Israel" (As the Muslim-majority Maldives has previously condemned Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip). which sparked online controversy about India-Maldives relations which ended in many Indian influencers boycotting Maldives and planning to visit Lakshadweep.[8][9][10]
- 10 January: The website of the Juvenile Court of the Maldives was hacked by Indian hackers and displayed a warning.[11][12]
- 12 January:
- Malé and other islands experienced flooding and rain since early morning, MNDF soldiers were deployed to drain the flooding.[13] Due to the flooding, Hulhumalé cemetery was flooded and bodies that were to be buried were moved to Galolhu cemetery in Malé.[14] The weather caused flights to be delayed and one plane damaged,[15][16] and 144 houses being submerged[17] and people being put into shelter by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).[18] It was later reported that the capital had 159 mm of rain, the heaviest ever being recorded.[19]
- Maldivian actor, Mohamed Yunan and his wife Fathimath Rihula, is pending their trials end. They were charged with multiple counts of sexually abusing children in their family from 2019 to 2020.[20]
- 13 January:
- Malé City Citizens head to the voting station to vote for the new Malé city mayor.[21]
- Adam Azim wins the mayoral election.[22]
- 14 January:
- The Maldives calls for the complete withdrawal of the Indian Armed Forces from its territory by March 15 amid a diplomatic dispute between the two countries. India currently has around 80 troops stationed on the archipelago.[23] President Muizzu has given India till March 15 to remove all troops.[24]
- Education Ministry and Maldives Government announces "Nationalism" be taught in schools starting from the next academic year as a new subject.[25]
- 15 January:
- The government sent a private flight to Turkey to bring back Maldivian ex-fighters that were displaced during the civil war in Syria.[26]
- Dharumavantha Hospital succeeds Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital as the primary government hospital.[27]

- 17 January: Maldives controls the spread of Hepatitis B and was given recognition by the World Health Organization.[33]
- 18 January:
- The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) mandates that individuals wishing to participate in parliamentary elections to open separate bank accounts.[34]
- Government constructs temporary mosques in Phase II of Hulhumalé for Ramadan.[35]
- 20 January: Hong Kong Airlines resumes direct flights to Maldives.[36]
- 21 January: Government establishes the "Maldives International Financial Services Authority", which will function under the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.[37][38]
- 23 January: Adam Azim was sworn in as the new Mayor of Malé.[39]
- 24 January: Islamic Ministry contracts SJ Construction for the construction of Zikura Mosque.[40]
- 25 January:
- The first session of "Ahaa" (the public forum of ministers) was held at Sultan Park.[41]
- Maldivian expands operations to Hoarafushi Airport.[42]
- 26 January: Malé City Council and the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare signs an agreement to develop a temporary cat shelter.[43]
- 27 January: New Police Stations established in Baa Atoll Maalhos, and Kihaadhoo, and Noonu Atoll Henbadhoo and, Lhohi.[44]
- 28 January:
- Maldives Parliament on deadlock, clashes erupt in parliament between minority ruling party MPs and majority opposition MPs over crucial vote on President Muizzu’s Cabinet. The main opposition party MDP along with splitted party The Democrats decided to withhold parliamentary approval for four members of President Muizzu’s cabinet ahead of the voting on the cabinet.[45] MPs from the People's National Congress obstructed the sitting as a protest began outside in defense of the ministers.[46] [47] [48] these clashes resulted few injuries and one ruling party member where taken to the hospital. [49] [50] [51] Ruling party members has submitted No-confidence trial against Speaker Mohamed Aslam and Deputy Speaker Ahmed Saleem.[52] Amidst ceaseless protests from parliamentarians, Speaker Aslam has announced that tonight's sitting is being discontinued due to circumstances not allowing it to proceed.[53]
- The Government of Maldives has decided to intervene in the case filed against Israel by South Africa in the International Court of Justice (ICJ). [54]
- 29 January:
- Opposition party members including Maldivian Democratic Party and their splitted party The Democrats has submitted Impeachment trial against President Mohamed Muizzu [55] [56]
- Maldives Parliament has approved 19 Cabinet ministers, only 3 were not approved, these three ministers aren’t approved by the parliament were Attorney General Ahmed Usham, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem and Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed. [57]
- Government reintroduces helicopter flight services.[58]
- Nationalism Pilot Programme starts in 11 schools across the country. 4 students in Kaafu Atoll, and 7 in different atolls.[59]
- Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) bans Toblerone after it was warned by the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed that a batch was contaminated with plastic.[60]
- 30 January:
- Ministers who were rejected from parliament got re-appointed by President Muizzu's Administration.[61]
- ECM opens applications for parliamentary elections.[62]
- MFDA orders Panadol recall after discovering quality issues and defects with the medicine.[63]
- Due to recent row on Lakshadweep and Maldives, India drops to fifth in Maldives Tourism Rankings (as of 28 January 2024). India was ranked first in 2023 Maldives Tourism Rankings before the end of 2023. [64]
- 31 January:
- Air ambulance service between Maldives to Sri Lanka to begin on March 01.[65]
- State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) will provide technical support to Fenaka.[66]
- Protest happened over Club Valencia board transfer where it was alleged that Mohamed Tholal, the sports commissioner changed the board members without the club knowing.[67] Which caused Bassam Adeel Jaleel, ex-president of FAM to lose control over the club.[68]
- Desalination plants established in five islands via China aid. [69]
- Prosecutor General, Hussain Shameem was attacked on the streets with a hammer resulting in him being admitted to ADK Hospital.[70] The MNDF has since strengthened his security detail.[71] The attackers were found to have stalked him for hours beforehand and concealed their identity using helmets.[72] The police were set to summon Former President Solih after his statement which suggested he has credible information.[73]
- Former President and Central Machangolhi Constituency MP, Mohamed Nasheed temporarily relocates to Ghana during his hiatus from politics without informing People's Majlis on how to proceed regarding his responsibilities towards the constituency and the public.[74][75]
- Foreign military boards vessels in Maldives Ocean Territory, which is believed to be Indian Coast Guard or Navy by the Yellowfin Tuna Fisherman's Union (Bodu Kanneli Masveringe Union).[76]

- 2 February:

- Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) concludes its probe into the complaints of regarding the allocation of Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) built flats.[84]
- The two people connected to the attack on PG Hussain Shameem arrested and in custody.[85]
- President Muizzu plans on ensuring payments be delivered to fishermen by Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).[86]

- New Delhi hosts second round of deliberations to remove foreign military presence[89] and has agreed to remove all military by May 10.[90]
- Ministry of Defence identifies foreign military that boarded local vessels to be Indian Coastguard Ship 246 and 253.[91] Maldives has also requested India to write a response to explain the jurisdiction behind Indian Coastguards boarding and operating in Maldives EEZ.[92]
- Car crashes into solar panels in Sinamalé Bridge resulting in both the car and the solar panels damaged.[93]
- Case filed in the Civil Court regarding the results of the Henveiru Central constituency in ruling PPM/PNC primaries.[94]

- Maldives and India agrees to replace military personnel with civil personnel.[95]

- Mohamed Muizzu announced that Eid al-Fitr holiday (Starting 20 Ramadan to 3 Shawwal) is an Annual Holiday starting this year.[96]
