February 29 – Tren Maya will be extended from Cancún Airport to Playa del Carmen.[14]

- March 8 – M9 of Istanbul Metro extension from Çekmeköy to Samandıra Merkez.

– Hokuriku Shinkansen scheduled extension from Kanazawa to Tsuruga.[15] As a result, the parallel-running Hokuriku Main Line in this section is divested to third-sector companies:
- – The IR Ishikawa Railway to be extended from Kanazawa to Daishoji (46.4 km (28.8 mi)).[16]
- – Newly formed third-sector company Hapi-Line Fukui to begin operations on the 84.3 km (52.4 mi) section of the Hokuriku Main Line between Daishoji and Tsuruga.[17]
- – E8 Series Shinkansen scheduled introduction into operation. Maximum speed of Yamagata Shinkansen trains on the 320 km/h (200 mph) sections of the Tohoku Shinkansen line to increase from 275 to 300 km/h (171 to 186 mph).[18]
- – opening of Kagiya-nakaoike Station as an infill station on the Meitetsu Kōwa Line in Nagoya.[19][20]
- March 19 – M5 of Istanbul Metro extension from Çekmeköy to Ataköy.
- March 24 – Extension of the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway to Minō-Semba-Handaimae station and Minō-Kayano station.[21]

- – The first section of the 2 Line of the Link light rail system in Seattle is expected to begin service, connecting the suburbs of Bellevue and Redmond. It is the third line in the light rail system and is expected to be extended to Seattle the following year.[28]
- - New Talgo AVRIL rolling stock is expected to start operations in the Spanish AVE network. It is the first train model with variable gauge that can reach 300km/h,
