- 1 January – M 4.5 earthquake, 23 km (14 mi) north northeast of Lembang, West Java. Four hundred houses were damaged in Sumedang.[1][2]
- 3 January – M 5.3 Banten earthquake, 60 km (37 mi) southwest of Pelabuhanratu, Banten.[3]
- 5 January – Four killed and 37 injured in a train head-on collision between KA Turangga operated by Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and KRL Bandung Raya operated by KAI Commuter near Cicalengka, West Java.[4]
- 7 January – Third presidential debate was held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta. The debate discussed issues of defense, security, international relations, globalization, geopolitics and foreign policy.[5][6]
- 14 January – KA Pandalungan operated by Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) derailed near Tanggulangin Station, East Java.[7]
- 29 January – Chairman of Student Executive Board at University of Indonesia, Melki Sedek Huang, was found guilty of doing a sexual assault and receive sanctions in the form of academic suspension for one semester.[8]
- 31 January – Gadjah Mada University released Bulaksumur petition which demanded President Jokowi and his staff to stop the irregularities that occurred in the Indonesian government during his tenure and 2024 Indonesian presidential election, and urged them to return to the corridors of democracy.[9][10]
