- 1 January:
- ISRO successfully launched its inaugural X-Ray Polarimeter Satellite XPoSat to study black holes and galaxies. The XPoSat aims to explore the polarization of intense X-ray sources in space.[1]

- 2 January - Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Lakshadweep for a two day visit.[2]
- 3 January: A court in India sentences two men to death over a train bombing in 2005 which killed 14 people.[3]

- Aditya-L1 spacecraft, India's first solar mission, has successfully entered its final orbit around the first Sun-Earth Lagrangian point (L1), approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth.[4]
- Three Ministers of Maldives passes derogatory remarks against Narendra Modi in social media sparking massive tourism boycott call and ticket cancellation to islands from India.[5]
- 7 January - Maldives suspends three of its ministers namely Maryam Shiuna, Malsha Shareef and Mahzoom Majid due to diplomatic and economic backlash after their derogatory remarks against Narendra Modi.[6]
- 12 January - Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicates Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (Atal Setu) the longest bridge in India that connects Mumbai with Navi Mumbai to the nation. [7][8]
- 14 January - Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra by Rahul Gandhi commences at Northeast India.
- 22 January - Ram Mandir Prana Pratishtha: The Ram Mandir at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh is inaugurated by India's prime minister, Narendra Modi.[9]
- 25 January - French President Emmanuel Macron landed in Jaipur, India, as part of his two-day state visit to India and Chief Guest of India's 75th Republic Day. He was welcomed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the two leaders held a joint mega roadshow from Jantar Mantar to Sanganeri gate.[10]
- 26 January - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron celebrated India's Republic Day together. President Macron was the Chief Guest at the Republic Day parade in New Delhi, showcasing the strengthened ties between India and France.[11]
- 28 January - Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar gave his resignation letter to the Governor of Bihar at 11:00 am in the morning and ended the Mahagathbandhan (Bihar) with RJD & INDIA bloc and at 7:00 pm took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the 9th time by forming new alliance with BJP-led NDA.[12]
- 30 January - 3 CRPF personnel were killed and 14 others were injured in a Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh. The incident took place near Tekalgudem village when a joint team of security personnel was on a search operation. The deceased included constables from the CoBRA and CRPF battalions. The attack occurred shortly after the establishment of a new security camp in the village.[13]
- 31 January - Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to a land scam.[14]

- 2 February - Champai Soren takes oath as Chief Minister of Jharkhand. After the arrest of Hemant Soren.[15]
- 6 February
- A firecracker factory explosion in Harda, Madhya Pradesh, where has resulted in 11 deaths and over 100 injuries. The explosion, followed by a blaze, led to multiple casualties and significant damage to nearby properties. The authorities, including the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Mohan Yadav and key officials, have been actively involved in the response to the incident. Firefighters and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) worked together to contain the disaster. The blast destroyed 60 nearby houses, leading to the evacuation of over 100 houses due to continuous explosions at the factory.[16]
- Ajit Pawar's faction has been officially recognized as the real Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) by the Election Commission of India. The EC has granted his faction the party's poll symbol and name, giving them the status of the official NCP. The Election Commission has directed Sharad Pawar's camp to take a new name for the upcoming 2024 general election.[17]
- 7 February - The Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly has passed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill 2024, making Uttarakhand the first state in India to have a law on the Uniform Civil Code. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami described it as a "historic moment" in the country.[18]
- 8 February - 4 deaths and over 100 injuries when violent clashes broke out in Haldwani, Uttrakhand after the demolition of an illegal madrasa was demolished following a court order which took place in a Muslim-dominated area. Rioters pelting stones at police officers and setting vehicles on fire. The suspension of internet services, curfew has been imposed in Banbhoolpura, Haldwani by the DM and the closure of schools. Shoot-at-sight orders were issued against the rioters. The unrest was sparked by the demolition of an illegally built madrasa, which escalated into a riot, with stone pelting, vehicle fires, and the use of petrol bombs.[19][20]
